Service Description

Hears and makes rulings on legal disputes relating to criminal, civil, family, traffic, and bylaw matters. Hours for Court Registry are 9 am to 4 pm Monday to Friday. Duty counsel services are provided to coincide with what is occurring in court on any given day; hours vary. Drop-in clients may be seen only if there is time left in the day. Individuals may be eligible for criminal duty counsel if they are charged with a crime and cannot get a legal aid lawyer or have not yet applied for legal aid. Duty counsel provides advice about charges laid, court procedures, and legal rights, as well as provide representation at bail hearings and help with guilty pleas.
