Temporary Resident Permits for Family Violence Victims

In cases of family violence, officers may issue Temporary Resident Permits (TRP) for up to 180 days to victims and their dependent children, without a processing fee. Individuals who may be eligible include foreign nationals in Canada under a Family Class sponsorship who have left their sponsor due to abuse or have not yet left their sponsor due to fear of losing their immigration status. With the granting of a TRP, victims also receive health care benefits and trauma counselling, and are eligible to apply for a fee-exempt temporary work permit. IRCC Client Support Centre hours are 8 am to 4 pm daily.
