Victim Court Support Program - Downtown Community Court

Service Description

Provides support to victims and witnesses who are attending Downtown Community Court due to a criminal case. Works with health and social services, community organizations, area residents, merchants, faith communities, nonprofit organizations, and schools. Services include emotional support, court orientation and accompaniment, form completion assistance, and liaison with justice system personnel and integrated social services. Also offers information about the criminal justice system, court proceedings, case status, and hearing dates, as well as referrals to other community services. Community court takes a problem-solving approach to address offenders' needs and circumstances, and the underlying causes of their criminal behaviour. The court deals with offenders more quickly through a coordinated and informed response which benefits offenders, victims, and the community. The courthouse is open from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm Monday to Friday. Court hours are 9 am to 12 noon and 2 pm to 4 pm Monday to Friday. Victim Court Support office hours are 8:30 am to 5 pm Monday to Friday.
