Provides wildfire management and emergency response to protect life and assets, particularly forest and grass lands. Manages wildfires in BC on both Crown and private land, outside of organized areas such as municipalities or regional districts. Emergency response is managed through the Provincial Wildfire Coordination Centre in Kamloops. Also provides regulation, enforcement, wildfire prevention services, and public awareness campaigns. Call the Report a Wildfire Line 24 hours a day, seven days a week to report a fire, smoke columns, or violations of wildfire regulations. Open fires larger than two metres wide and three metres high require a registration; call the Burn Registration Line for information or to register a fire. Provides information on fire bans and where fires are burning through the Wildfire Information Line and online. Also a partner in BC FireSmart (https://firesmartbc.ca), a collaboration of agencies focused on supporting wildire preparedness, prevention, and mitigation in BC.
