Comox Valley Transition Society

Assists women, inclusive of trans women, who are experiencing or fleeing family and/or relationship violence. Offers shelter, emotional support, food and clothing, advocacy, counselling, an employment program, a homelessness prevention program, children's programs, and educational training and workshops to the public, in schools, and businesses. All services are confidential and free of charge, with the exception of some private recovery beds at Amethyst House. Serves the Comox, Courtenay, and Cumberland areas, including Denman Island and Hornby Island. Hours are 9 am to 5 pm Monday to Thursday, and 9 am to 4 pm Fridays. Nonprofit society, registered charity.

Year-round, low-barrier emergency shelter for adults ages 19 and over. Check-in is daily between 8 pm and 9:30 pm to keep the same bed. Last admission at 11 pm. Wheelchair accessible. Pets are allowed but should be on a leash. Storage available. Laundry tickets provided for nearby laundromat. Smoking permitted outside. No max stay. Rain gear and blankets provided for turnaways when available.

Second-stage housing facility with 40 units for women with or without children who have experienced violence or are at risk of abuse, threats, or violence. Length of stay is 18 months. Provides emotional support, safety planning, and referrals. Also offers individual advocacy with government and community agencies, parenting support, court accompaniment, life skills training, and assistance finding permanent housing. Cost is 30% of income or the maximum shelter allowance for individuals on income assistance. House is located in the Courtenay community. Office hours are 9 am to 4 pm Monday to Friday.
