Responsible for providing government services to First Nations, Inuit, and Métis people. Supports First Nations, Inuit, and Métis people to improve social well-being and economic prosperity; develop healthier, more sustainable communities; and participate more fully in Canada's political, social, and economic development. Provides support for services on reserves such as education, housing, community infrastructure, and social support to Status persons on reserves; administers the land management component of the Indian Act; and executes other regulatory duties under the Indian Act. Also registers status and band membership, and issues status cards for First Nations people. Service hours are 9 am to 6 pm Eastern standard time Monday to Friday.

A 24-hour telephone line offers confidential and culturally competent crisis intervention and counselling support for First Nations, Inuit, and Métis people across Canada. Counsellors also work with callers to identify follow-up wellness supports they can access in their communities. A 24-hour online chat service is available on the website. Services are available in English and French, as well as Cree, Inuktitut, and Ojibway (Anishinaabemowin) upon request. The helpline is operated by Donna Cona, an Indigenous organization, and is funded by the Government of Canada.

Provides cultural and emotional support, and mental health counselling services to survivors of Indian Residential Schools and the families of former students.

Provides cultural and emotional support, and mental health counselling services to survivors of Indian Residential Schools and the families of former students. Supports include access to Elders, Knowledge Holders, traditional healers, and ceremonies. A treatment plan estimating duration and cost of counselling must be submitted for prior approval by a counsellor registered with Indigenous Services Canada before treatment begins. All survivors are eligible, regardless of Indigenous status or place of residence within Canada. Also offers health supports services to individuals affected by the trauma associated with their attendance at a Federal Indian Day School, as well as to survivors, family members, and those affected by the issue of missing and murdered Indigenous women and girls. Assistance with transportation may be offered when mental health counselling and cultural support services are not locally available. Serves the Yukon, Northwest Territories, and Nunavut.

Service coordinators work directly with families of First Nations children and youth to help them access services, products, and supports, and to submit Jordan’s Principle and Inuit Child First Initiative requests where appropriate. Coordinators assess needs, facilitate early intervention, develop integrated care plans, connect children and families to needed services, support families, and involve relevant partners to address immediate service gaps; coordinators can also act as authorized representatives, and support appeals. No fees are charged for coordination service. Jordan's Principle is a federal framework that applies to all First Nations children and youth (up to age 19) living on or off reserve, as well as those in government care, with an identified need for a publicly funded health or social service. Health services include mental health services, home support and personal care, in-home nursing care, respite care, client assessment and case management, physiotherapy and occupational therapy, speech language therapy, in-home palliative care, medical supplies and equipment, and some nutritional supplements. Social services include meal programs/planning/preparation for children with special dietary needs, day programs, special education services, long-term care for children/youth with special needs, attendant care services, group care, non-medical transportation, and minor home repair or maintenance related to accessibility. Any individual can refer a child or youth who is not receiving needed health or social services by calling; inquiries receive an initial response within 12 to 48 hours. Northern Region hours are 8 am to 4 pm Eastern time Monday to Friday; National Contact Centre hours are 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
