Island Crisis Care Society (ICCS)

Provides housing alternatives and holistic support for people who have experienced homelessness, mental health challenges, and substance use issues in the mid-Vancouver Island region. Offers a range of programs that include emergency shelter, assisted living, transitional housing, recovery programs, crisis stabilization, and rent subsidies. Also offers life skills, employment training, outreach services, and a drop-in hub. Operates supportive housing for individuals who are homeless or at risk of homelessness; intake is through the BC Housing Supportive Housing registry. Also operates the Rising Hope Community Kitchen which offers affordable access to kitchen space and equipment. Head office hours are 9 am to 1:30 pm Monday to Friday. Nonprofit society, registered charity.

Provides supportive recovery housing with a structured therapeutic community to maintain sobriety for adults with a substance use disorder.

Provides supportive recovery housing with a structured therapeutic community to maintain sobriety for adults with a substance use disorder. Designed for individuals who have completed detox or treatment and need supportive recovery services. Operates from a therapeutic village model. Services include stable housing, meals, individualized service plans, counselling and mental health resources, assistance with managing medication, and psychosocial support that includes life skills and tools that support greater resiliency and strength. Stays are typically three to 12 months, with extension to 18 months in extenuating circumstances. Priority is given to marginalized individuals and those demonstrating financial need. Accepts all genders. Accepts individuals on substitution therapy. Applications accepted online at https://www.islandcrisiscaresociety.ca/connect-with-services. Eligibility includes being from the Nanaimo region or having family in the area between Ladysmith and Qualicum. Not wheelchair accessible, and unable to accept pets. No fee for service; program costs are covered by government funding, donations, and scholarships. Registered with the Assisted Living Registry as supportive recovery.

Outreach teams provide supports including life skills and landlord communication to help clients remain housed. Also provides storage facilities, offering a space for people who have lost their housing to keep small quantities of personal goods for their future re-housing. Provides transportation support and covers costs to get clients to key appointments at the Opioid Agonist Treatment (OAT) clinic in Qualicum Beach. The team also provide direct outreach support to people sleeping rough in the area. Hours are 8:30 am to 4:30 pm, Monday to Friday.
