Offers non-medical assistance to local seniors and elders age 65 and older to help them live independently and maintain a connection to their communities.
Offers non-medical assistance to local seniors and elders age 65 and older to help them live independently and maintain a connection to their communities. Services include light housekeeping and light yard work, snow shovelling, minor home repairs, transportation to appointments and grocery shopping assistance, and friendly visiting. Services are provided by contractors and trained volunteers. Serves northern Vancouver Island including Alert Bay, Coal Harbour, Port Alice, Port Hardy, Port McNeill, Sointula, and Woss; also serves the communities of Gwa'sala-'Nakwaxda'xw First Nation, Kwakiutl First Nation, Namgis First Nation, and Quatsino First Nation. Fees are on a sliding scale and based on income. Office and program hours are from 9 am to 5 pm Monday to Friday. Funded by Ministry of Health (MOH) and managed by United Way British Columbia (UWBC).

Mental health care, substance use services, primary health care, youth and family peer supports, and social services are accessible under one roof. Provides sexual health services including birth control options, emergency contraception, pregnancy testing and information, and sexually transmitted infection (STI) testing and treatment. Foundry Work and Education is a free supported employment and education program for youth interested in working, going to school, or completing a training program. Also offers a variety of social and wellness programs for youth. Self or other referral accepted. Serves Alert Bay, Port Alice, Port Hardy, Port McNeill, and Sointula. Supports adults voluntarily motivated to work on mental health and substance use recovery. Crisis Stabilization Program is a six-bed residential facility for men and women age 18 or older who require short-term crisis stabilization due to mental health and/or addiction issues. Anticipated length of stay is five to 10 days. Intake is through Mount Waddington Mental Health and Substance Use Services office; intake hours are 8:30 am to 4:30 pm Monday to Friday. Registered with the Assisted Living Registry, Ministry of Health. The Withdrawal Management Program is a 30-day residential social detox program offering up to five clients the opportunity to work with staff on recovery skills, treatment applications, and integrating back into the community. Program staff consists of an addictions worker, a withdrawal management nurse, and house staff. Intake is through the Mount Waddington Mental Health and Substance Use Services office in Port Hardy; referrals are also accepted from a primary health care provider. Serves individuals living in the Mount Waddington Region. Office hours are 9 am to 5 pm Monday to Friday. Funded by Island Health.
