To qualify, applicants must be a First Nations person with a Canadian status number or the child (under one year of age) of a First Nations person with a Canadian status number; a resident of BC as defined by the MSP (must have resided in BC for at least three months, not as a student) and having active MSP coverage; and must not be covered under any other benefits provided by federal government or First Nations organizations through self-government or land claims agreements. Office hours are 8 am to 4:30 pm Monday to Friday.
Dental Benefits cover regular access to essential preventative dental services such as exams and cleanings, as well as dental items and services under the following categories: bridges; crowns, inlays, onlays, veneers; dental surgery; dental sedation; dentures; exams and x-rays; fillings; night guards; orthodontic services (coverage has age restrictions and medical criteria); periodontal services; preventive services; and root canals and related services. Does not cover cosmetic treatments; implants; and ridge augmentation. Offered in partnership with Pacific Blue Cross.
Medical Supplies and Equipment Benefits cover medical supplies and equipment for short- or long-term health conditions under the following categories: bathing and toileting aids; braces and splints; cushions and protectors; diabetic and heart patient devices; foot orthotics and orthopedic shoes; hearing aids and repairs; hospital beds; lifting and transfer aids; limb and body orthotics; low vision aids; ostomy supplies; oxygen, sleep and breathing aids; prosthetics and supplies; surgical stockings and pressure garments; urinary supplies and devices; walking aids and wheelchairs; and wound care supplies. Medical Transportation Benefits are available to First Nations people who must travel to a medical appointment outside their community of residence. Provides assistance with the cost of transportation, meals, and accommodation; coverage is intended as a supplement and may not cover the full cost of travel. Benefits are for travel to medical services covered by MSP or a public health agency; services eligible under the Health Benefits Program (such as dental or vision services); publicly funded diagnostic tests and preventative screening programs; traditional healers; treatment centres for substance use; or Opioid Agonist Treatment (OAT). Benefits cover travel to the closest appropriate provider, using the most efficient and economical type of transportation appropriate for the patient's needs and medical condition.
Pharmacy Benefits provide a pharmacy plan that covers prescription drugs, over-the-counter drugs, and non-drug over-the-counter items. Does not cover cannabis and most vaccines. Offered in partnership with BC PharmaCare and Pacific Blue Cross.
Vision Care Benefits cover vision care items and services under the following categories: prescription eyewear and repairs, sight tests, and eye exams. Does not cover prescription eyewear accessories or supplies (such as contact lens solution, glasses cases); surgical procedures (such as laser eye surgery); or procedures covered by MSP (such as cataract surgery).
