Delivers health care and support services through a network of health centres, hospitals, primary care clinics, residential care homes, and other facilities. Services include home and community care, mental health and substance use, health protection, public health, acute care, and other specialized programs. Free Take Home Naloxone Kits (Narcan) used to reverse the effects of overdoses from opioids (like fentanyl, heroin, methadone, morphine, and oxycodone), are available at all hospitals, public health units, mental health and substance use offices, and other facilities throughout the health authority region. Request forms for access to personal health records can be obtained online (www.islandhealth.ca/about-us/accountability/information-stewardship-access-privacy/accessing-information-records). Also funds and operates assisted living facilities; intake is through regional Community Access Lines. Serves Vancouver Island and the Gulf Islands. Responsible for service delivery on behalf of Ministry of Health (MOH). Office hours are 8:30 am to 4:30 pm Monday to Friday.

Stay is between 14 and 30 days, during which clients participate in groups and check-ins, with 24 hour on-site support from addiction recovery workers. Rooms are shared between three or four same-sex individuals; limited single rooms available to accommodate diverse medical/psychiatric needs. Applicants must be seven days sober. Accepts individuals on substitution therapy but cannot store or administer methadone, suboxone, or methamphetamines; delivery from a local pharmacy may be available. Referrals accepted from a Mental Health and Substance Use (MHSU) clinician or self; referrals are triaged, and those with highest need for stabilization will be prioritized for service. Intake is through Central Access and Rapid Engagement Services (CARES). Cost is $40 per day, which is covered for clients receiving benefits from Ministry of Social Development and Poverty Reduction (MSDPR). Serves Greater Victoria.
