  Provides transitional independent housing to individuals ages 19 and up who are in recovery from problematic substance use.

  Provides transitional independent housing to individuals ages 19 and up who are in recovery from problematic substance use. Individuals must have demonstrated a commitment to recovery, been abstinent for a period of at least three months at time of referral/application and maintain abstinence prior to placement into program, have skills and abilities to live independently with minimal supports, and reside in Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH) or Fraser Health regions. Accepts individuals on opioid agonist therapy (OAT). Duration of program is 18 months. In the Vancouver area, apply through VCH Access Central or contact the ARP Coordinator to discuss suitability for the program. In the Fraser Valley area, apply through the Fraser Health Crisis Line or contact staff at a recovery house, treatment centre, or Fraser Health outpatient substance use counsellor. Offered in partnership with Vancouver Coastal Health and Fraser Health.

Eligibility is based on residency and household income below a certain limit; see website for full eligibility requirements. Applicants can apply online, by mail, by fax, or at the nearest BC Housing office in order to be considered for available units. Individuals in Fraser Valley, Metro Vancouver, Sea to Sky, and Sunshine Coast communities may also go to the BC Housing Applicant Services storefront office in Burnaby for in-person assistance in accessing the registry. The registry is accessible to nonprofit and cooperative providers of rent-geared-to-income housing who are lookin for tenants; housing providers maintain responsibility for screening and selecting tenants, and membership is free. Developed in partnership with BC Housing, the BC Non-Profit Housing Association, the Co-operative Housing Federation of BC, nonprofit housing providers, housing cooperatives, municipalities, and other community-based organizations.   Provides financial assistance to marginalized groups with low incomes to help with their monthly rent payments.

  Provides financial assistance to marginalized groups with low incomes to help with their monthly rent payments. Recipients do not qualify for other BC Housing rental assistance programs and pay more than 30 percent of their gross monthly income towards rent. Priority groups may include people experiencing or at risk of homelessness; women and children experiencing or at risk of domestic or gender-based violence; Indigenous peoples; people with disabilities; people dealing with mental health and addiction issues; veterans; racialized communities; youth leaving care; large families requiring four or more bedrooms; households requiring wheelchair modified/accessible accommodation; or other households on the waitlist for subsidized housing whose housing need cannot be met by the existing stock, as identified by BC Housing. Service providers identify applicants from a priority group and the applicant is invited by the provider to complete an application. The completed application is submitted to the provider who reviews the application, approves if eligibility is met, and enters the applicant’s information into BC Housing’s database. If the applicant is approved, the provider sets up direct deposit of the housing benefit to the recipient or to the landlord. Nonprofit housing providers identify and select eligible applicants. In some cases, BC Housing will select eligible applicants from the Housing Registry. There is no direct application process to this program. Applicant households must live in British Columbia and each member of the core household must be a Canadian citizen, a permanent resident of Canada, a refugee sponsored by the Government of Canada, or an individual who has applied for refugee status. Recipient cannot be under private sponsorship.

  Helps people living in subsidized housing or those receiving assistance through the Rental Assistance Program (RAP) pursue their educational goals. Offers seven education awards and bursaries from $750 to $1,000 for post-secondary education and training programs. Awards are based on academic achievement and financial need. Eligible applicants are between the ages of 17 to 64 during the application year; pursuing vocational education or post-secondary education at a recognized BC institution on a full- or part-time basis; enrolled in courses that begin or continue through September of the application year; living in accommodation subsidized by BC Housing at the start of courses; and not receiving government income assistance (BC disability assistance recipients are eligible to apply for the $750 BC Housing Bursary.)
